5D Nick — Overview
5D Nick is a novelist, DJ, film-maker, artist and VFX artist. A polymath at heart he somehow manages to be a jack of all trades but not a master of none!
5D Nick has 2 books currently self-published in the sci-fi / fiction category….
He has written 2 hard sci-fi books (one about AI and one about an alien assassin), one of which was made into an audiobook, which, smattered with music and SFX, is like a movie with visuals. Both books are intense and at times sublime and well worth the journey.
Niquid is an assassin from a species known as The Animators. The 2nd book by Author 5D Nick
Mind-bending hard sci-fi, The Endless Maze is 5D Nick’s debut novel.
DJing is also hardwired into his soul due to his intense love of music and sharing the experience. He is a veritable tune encyclopedia and got hooked on the vibes and music from a young age; having spent many many weekends lost in maze-like warehouses all around London in the late 90s,
he grew to have a very prominent place in his heart for the intense heavy grooves and deep soundscapes of the music at the time. You are also guaranteed to hear old old classics dropped in amongst the most cutting edge sounds too, which is a DJing style he believes isn’t respected enough.
Starting at age 7 with toy horses and his family as “actors”, 5D Nick had made 3 films by the time he was 18!
Animated short film for a Onepacman music video produced by 5D Nick.
For a decade his unique work could be seen bombed around where he lived in London.
Learning the craft as he grew, he even edited his first films on old VHS video players, which incidently is a total nightmare! Moving into music videos after that because of his love of late 90s MTV2, he has made a handful of them under the umbrella of his production company Rolling The Deep Dice. From visual trips to actual short films, his range is inherent in all his work but he never let’s the quality slip or not improve.
5D started art as a child but in his early 20s he realised he preferred stencil, spray paint and graffiti calligraphy more than paintbrushes or drawing.
Now having converted to mainly digital art (of great variety), he also occasionally does great trippy stencil and pen murals which include everything from crop circle patterns, to characters inspired by Futura (a new york graffiti artist), to his family and friends’ names!
And finally he is a professional VFX artist having studied at Escape Studios and worked in a studio, The Flying Colour Company, in Soho. He specialises in Houdini and dynamic simulations, and uses the output for his own videos and visuals as well as others’. He has had his work on the BBC and on visual screens at Boomtown and Glastonbury.
